SUMMARY:CMFA Presents: Ann Brodie's Carolina Ballet's "Cinderella"
DESCRIPTION:Ann Brodie’s Carolina Ballet presents their award winning production of this classic fairy tale on stage at the historic Township Auditorium. With a very Mean stepmother\, a Vain stepsister and her equally as mischievous Forward stepsister\, Cinderella is treated very poorly indeed. In the true tradition of every fairy tale\, the Fairy Godmother comes to Cinderella’s rescue and together with all the fairies of the magical kingdom ensure a happy ending as Cinderella and her Prince Charming live happily ever after. \nThis production is more than a story about footwear – it is an allegory of good triumphing over mean-spiritedness. \nCombined with the lush music of Sergei Prokofiev\, and the brilliant choreography of founding director Ann Brodie\, the Carolina Ballet Artistic Director\, Mimi Worrell\, breathes magic into this well known and beloved fairy tale. Starring internationally recognized guest artists joining Carolina Ballet’s stars of tomorrow on stage today. This is a fairy tale for all ages.

SUMMARY:Cody Unkart: New Works - Presented by the Columbia Music Festival Association
DESCRIPTION:The Columbia Music Festival Association will be presenting Cody Unkart: New Works. The paintings shown in the CMFA ArtSpace depict intimate spaces that the artist visits daily\, including views of his neighborhood in the West Columbia Mill Village\, Cayce Riverwalk\, Congaree Vista\, and the paths that connect them. Each painting emphasizes glimpses of fleeting light and shadows\, rhythmic variations in architecture and nature\, and quiet moments of contemplation and solitude. On his artistic practice Unkart notes: “Painting from observation allows me to slow down and be present; to notice and emphasize the infinite beauty and liveliness of ordinary surroundings.” In conjunction with Artista Vista\, this will be the first time these works will be shown publicly. \nExhibition: \nFri. April 22nd 6:00pm – 9:00pm (light hors d’oeuvres)\nSat. April 23rd 10:00am – 4:00pm\nSun. April 24th 10:00am – 4:00pm

SUMMARY:Columbia Children's Theatre Presents: Grace for President
DESCRIPTION:Grace for President tells the story of a girl\, who\, stunned to discover that all U.S. presidents have been men\, decides to kick off her own political career by running for president of her class. She faces off against a popular boy and wins in a surprising way. The lesson? That women – whether Grace\, Kamala Harris or anyone in the audience – can run for office\, win\, and lead. \nBased on the book by Kelly S. DiPucchio and adapted for the stage by Joah Cushing\, this musical about girl power is an entertaining hit for all ages and audiences. \nAdapted for the stage by Joan Cushing\, CCT is excited to bring this musical production of Grace for President to the CMFA stage. In addition to offering an inspiring perspective on the opportunities for women in America\, the show serves as a great primer for young people on the electoral process and drives home the critical role of character in leadership. With a perfect balance of humor\, music\, and education – it’s a great fit for the whole family. \nThe show is directed by CCT Artistic Director\, Jerry Stevenson. “This year we put careful thought into balancing older classics with newer\, more topical programming\,” says Stevenson\, “and I think Grace for President is the perfect show to start the season.” \nFittingly\, the role of Grace Campbell will be played by local teachers Akira Taylor and Erica Cooper. Akira teaches Math at Midlands Art Conservatory\, while Erica teaches Dance at Eau Claire High School. The choreography is by Lisa Sendler and costumes are by Jerry Stevenson and Donna Harvey.
